Frequently asked questions
The Aligned Impact Model™
How will AIM™ help me connect strategy, finance, and operations?
AIM™ helps leaders translate organizational priorities into operating plans, resource decisions, financial expectations, and measures of progress. Rather than treating the strategic plan, budget, financial reports, and day-to-day operations as separate activities, participants build a more integrated leadership system.
What size or stage of organization is the best fit?
AIM™ is best suited for established nonprofit organizations with active programs, financial operations, staff, and leadership structures. Organizations do not need to have sophisticated systems or perfectly documented processes, but they should have enough operating history and organizational information to evaluate and improve.
The application process will help determine whether AIM™ is the right fit for your organization’s current stage and needs.
What makes AIM™ different from a traditional leadership or nonprofit finance course?
AIM™ is a working bootcamp—not a passive training program. Participants use their own organizational information to assess current practices, identify gaps, develop tools, and make meaningful progress throughout the nine-month experience.
Although AIM™ is deeply rooted in nonprofit finance, it goes beyond financial management to help leaders connect strategy, finance, operations, people, and performance.
What if my organization does not have a current strategic plan?
A current strategic plan is helpful, but it is not required. AIM™ can help you clarify the priorities already guiding your organization and identify where additional strategic direction may be needed. The program is not a substitute for a full strategic planning process, but it can help establish a stronger foundation for one.
What if our financial systems or processes need significant improvement?
That may be one of the reasons AIM™ is a good fit. Participants are not expected to begin with perfect systems, clean processes, or sophisticated reporting. AIM™ helps leaders identify gaps, establish priorities, and determine which improvements will have the greatest organizational impact.
If the organization is facing an immediate financial crisis or requires extensive accounting cleanup, additional support may be recommended before or alongside the bootcamp.
The AIM™ Bootcamp
Who is the ideal candidate for the AIM™ Bootcamp?
The AIM™ Bootcamp is designed for nonprofit CEOs, CFOs, COOs, and other senior leaders who want to better connect their organization’s strategy, financial operations, people, and systems. It is ideal for leaders who are ready to step out of reactive problem-solving, examine how their organization operates, and do the hands-on work required to build greater clarity, alignment, and accountability.
Participants do not need to be finance experts—but they should be willing to engage with their organization’s financial information and apply what they learn directly to their work.
What does the AIM™ Bootcamp experience include?
The AIM™ Bootcamp combines facilitated cohort sessions, individual coaching, peer discussion, practical exercises, and implementation resources. Cohort sessions create dedicated space to work on important organizational priorities alongside leaders facing similar challenges, while individual coaching helps you apply the AIM™ framework to your organization’s specific circumstances, work through decisions, and address implementation barriers.
Participants also receive customizable tools and templates for organizational assessment, priority setting, operating planning, budgeting, financial analysis, and performance monitoring. Everything is designed to be applied directly within your organization—not completed once and placed on a shelf.
What will I accomplish during the nine-month program?
Throughout the nine-month program, you will clarify your organization’s strategic priorities and translate them into practical operating realities. You will examine what the work requires, align human and financial resources accordingly, and build cost allocation, annual operating, fund development, cash flow monitoring, and organizational performance plans.
The goal is not simply to produce a collection of plans and templates. You will develop human-centered processes and systems that fit your organization, integrate with existing workflows, and become embedded in how your team plans, makes decisions, allocates resources, manages cash, and monitors progress.
Will I work on my own organization during the AIM™ Bootcamp?
Yes. Your organization becomes the working case study throughout the program. You will use your own plans, financial information, systems, processes, and priorities to complete the work so that what you develop is immediately relevant and usable.
Is there an application process?
Yes. Because AIM™ is a hands-on working bootcamp, prospective participants complete a brief application and screening conversation. This process helps determine whether the leader and organization are ready to engage in meaningful change and ensures the cohort is aligned around participants with similar organizational contexts and challenges.
Cohorts are organized by nonprofit subsector—such as health and human services or arts and culture—so participants can learn alongside peers navigating comparable funding environments, operating realities, and leadership demands.
What does the AIM™ Bootcamp cost, and what is included?
The investment for the nine-month AIM™ Bootcamp is $7,500. This includes monthly facilitated cohort sessions and a 90-minute individual coaching session between each cohort meeting to help you apply the work to your organization, navigate decisions, and address implementation challenges.
You will also receive the tools and customizable templates needed to develop:
- Strategic priorities
- Annual operating plans
- A cost allocation methodology and plan
- An operating budget
- A cash flow monitoring tool
- A fund development strategy & plan
- Organizational monitoring systems
Each resource is designed to become part of how your organization plans, allocates resources, makes decisions, and monitors progress—not simply something you complete during the program and set aside.
